"A sunrise or sunset lasts only for a moment but a painting is there to always enjoy," said John Wayne Morrison, an optometrist here in Guymon who is also a very talented painter and The Wild Horse Art Gallery's featured artist of the month.
     Originally from Mattoon, Illinois, Morrison graduated with a B.S. from Oklahoma Panhandle State University and went on to get his Doctor of Optometry from Southern College of Optometry.
     Though his career has been in Optometry, Morrison's passion has been for creating works of art.  His watercolor technique was developed overtime through workshops with Emillo Caballero at West Texas University, with Taos artist Mabel Tregear and with Jo Dunham, another watercolorist from Guymon.
     Morrison currently has a series of eight paintings on display at the Wild Horse Art Gallery which feature bears in their natural setting.  His work has been featured on display at Natural Accents in Taos N.M., Art Space in Angel Fire, N.M. and at the Cimarron Blue Gallery in Cimarron, N.M.
     One piece, "Casa Among the Aspen" was selected for the Taos Charity Auction for the Taos Art Museum's Russian Nights event in Aug. of 2008.  Only about 20 percent of the work selected from Taos artists for that auction sold and Morrison's painting was among them.
     Morrison draws inspiration from God and from the people who take pleasure in his painting.  He first began selling his work when his wife Eleanor told him his art was taking up too much room in their home and encouraged him to go visit different galleries and present his paintings.  Since then his works have been sold all over the United States.
